I hadn’t heard about this ( I must admit I hide from the news quite a bit because I find it such a mix of depressing/terrifying). M&S should not be apologising to this woman, she should be the one apologising to the assistant ( whether she be trans or cis).
Definitely a good idea to be hiding from the news - every day seems to reach a new height of cruel stupidity.
Optimistically, some people have pointed out that the M&S response seems to be a generic 'sorry you felt that way' apology - an attempt to placate rather than agree.
Having said that, companies need to stop pretending that every customer complaint is reasonable. What happened to calling women like this 'Karens'?
